People in the automotive industry did not get there by accident. Working on cars is a very specific trade, one that requires a fair amount of training, education and exposure. But having the right training leads to only half the skills that are required of an automotive professional. The other half is simply having the right kind of mind and talent for the work. Automotive professionals are people who are naturally mechanically minded, good with their hands and do not invest much brain power into understanding their own emotions or creative thinking. This type of mind can be brilliant but also prone to addiction for a number of reasons.
Automotive professionals, and people in mechanically minded professions in general, are geared to think in a very linear, logical fashion. They tend to reason that there is no logic to the lives of their emotions or their feelings so they do not entertain them a great deal. Instead, they turn to what they know is tangible and logical in their vocation, and to other things that are mechanical in nature to make sense of the world around them. This is good in some ways and bad in others. It means that automotive professionals tend to be very even, predictable and stable in where they stand, but it also means that they can be emotionally stunted and unavailable. It means they possess emotions and feelings that they are not capable of understanding.
A person like this is susceptible to addiction because the mechanical mind seeks for outlets from its own predictable patterns. It can also be because the individual went through past hardship or trauma and never worked through it cognitively. When a mechanically minded person like this becomes addicted, it can result in one of the hardest cases of addiction to break. The reason for this is that the underlying causes of addiction are largely emotional and psychological, and when a person is not aware of their own emotional and psychological faculties, they have a very difficult time changing them and re-evaluating them.
